It's like Christmas all over again at my house!! My sweet wife is out to the theatre with my daughter; My son is sleeping off the late night we had last night - I took him to see the Hobbit (very good!) And now there are several re-mastered soundboards care of Charlie Miller. Can't go wrong with 12/30/78 for a start, especially since I started watching Closing of Winterland on New Years Eve, but had to stop after Scarlet>Fire due to other busy things going on around my house. Well, this first set is sounding so far, so damned good at Loser. Here and there a couple of tape flaws, and not bothering to compare to the old version, just getting stuck in. I'll be giving this good show a complete listen soon and watching the rest of 12/31/78 Closing Of Winterland DVD again pretty soon too. And definitely going to be checking out these '69 & '72 tapes and the rest, too.

I know I haven't really been contributing much to the forum in the past several months, but I always continue lurking around reading up most of the conversations here. Sure would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year.

Happy new year to you & yours!
I love that 11/30/78; it is a perfect companion to the next night.

Don't miss the playin from houston either- or a free Sirius trial to check out the rescheduled Furthur nye rebroadcast tonight @ 9 edt - if ya got the time & the interest.

I'm curious about the 2 nights in 69 myself.... anybody already familiar with those shows?

Those two 69' shows yielded no music of consequence. The 28th boasts a Jerry vocal on Good Lovin' and a pretty good Lovelight. The Dark Star from the 30th is a long dull affair and sort of hacky. The two versions of Easy Wind and the High Time are still very early in their development and thus not too impressive, but that's just my two cents and I would always recommend listening to 69' GD music you haven't heard. The show from 8/28 is in contrast a very interesting evening of music without Bob and Pig and featuring Howard Wales on organ, the show suffers from a poor mix where the organ is far too loud although it improves some on Dark Star through the end of the tape. The Dark Star and ensuing jams have some unique and very interesting music.
